Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART)
An evidence-based approach to rapid trauma resolution.
WHAT IS ART?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART) is an evidence-based psychotherapy developed by Laney Rosenzweig in 2008. Combining elements of existing therapies — including EMDR, Gestalt therapy, and guided imagery — ART uses a structured, protocol-guided approach and voluntary eye movements to help people rapidly resolve the distress associated with traumatic memories, anxiety, depression, and other painful experiences.
What distinguishes ART from many other trauma therapies is its speed and specificity. Most people experience significant relief within one to five sessions. ART does not require talking extensively about painful experiences — instead, it works by allowing the brain to re-imagine and reprocess distressing memories in a way that changes how they are stored and experienced. The memory remains, but the emotional charge attached to it is significantly reduced or eliminated.
ART has been validated through multiple research studies and is used by the U.S. military, VA health systems, and civilian clinical settings across the country.
HOW ART WORKS
A structured, protocol-guided process.
ART’s process moves clients through a complete sequence — from initial distress through desensitization to full image replacement and positive rescripting. Because ART follows a consistent structure, progress is predictable and results are often achieved within a single session.
You do not need to describe your trauma in detail.
One of ART’s most distinctive features is that clients can fully process and resolve distressing memories privately. The therapist guides the process without needing to hear detailed content — making ART particularly accessible for those who value privacy and efficiency.
ART attends to body sensations throughout.
Unlike some approaches that address physical sensations only at the end of processing, ART attends to how the distress is held in the body continuously throughout the session — keeping the nervous system regulated and ensuring the work is thorough rather than partial.
Clients leave feeling different — every session.
Even for ongoing issues that may require more than one session, clients leave each ART session with their rescripted positive images intact. There is no unfinished processing left open, and no need to avoid important commitments after a session.
WHAT ART TREATS
ART is extremely versatile. Research and clinical practice support its effectiveness for:
• Post-traumatic stress (PTS) and trauma-related symptoms
• Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
• Depression and grief
• Relationship trauma and attachment wounds
• OCD and behavioral patterns
• Performance anxiety
• Sleep disturbance and nightmares
• Addiction and substance-related trauma
• Chronic pain with psychological components
• Job-related stress and burnout
WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS
Peer-reviewed studies, including randomized and controlled trials, have demonstrated that ART can significantly reduce symptoms of PTSD and related conditions. A landmark trial in Military Medicine found large and clinically meaningful improvements in combat-related PTS symptoms, including among veterans who had previously undergone other evidence-based therapies without full resolution.
• Rapid outcomes — significant relief with an average of 3–4 sessions and as few as 1
• Effectiveness in PTSD — clinically significant and lasting reductions across military and civilian settings
• Broad symptom impact — alleviates co-occurring depression, anxiety, and grief alongside trauma relief
• Sustained effect — therapeutic gains maintained for months after treatment completion
HOW VICTORIA USES ART
Victoria is trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART) and is working towards certification through Rosenzweig Center for Rapid Recovery. At Resiliency Counseling, ART is offered as part of both standard sessions and extended intensive formats. Victoria integrates ART into her trauma-informed practice as a targeted, efficient option for clients who are ready to address specific memories, experiences, or symptoms affecting their daily functioning. ART is particularly well-suited for high-achieving clients who value efficiency and want to see tangible progress without an extended multi-year commitment to processing.
In couples and family therapy, Victoria uses ART to help partners reduce the emotional intensity of relational injuries — the moments of betrayal, disappointment, or rupture that continue to surface in conflict long after they occurred. By helping individuals reprocess the charged memories attached to relational wounds, ART creates the conditions for genuine repair and forward movement.
ART is also used within the Intimacy & Healing Intensive as one of the trauma processing modalities for clients navigating sexual trauma, desire concerns, and arousal difficulties. Victoria integrates ART alongside somatic and attachment-based approaches to ensure that healing is integrated across the body, the mind, and the relational self.
The ART Intensive includes:
a 1-hour Preparation Session ($300)
a 2-hour ART Intensive Processing Session ($600)
a 1-hour Follow-Up & Integration session ($300)
Sessions are billed individually as scheduled.
Total Investment: $1,200.
“ART reminds me that healing does not have to be slow to be deep. Some clients are ready to move — they just need the right tool to get there. ART gives us that option.” — Victoria Griffin, LPC
A Note on Virtual Delivery
ART is best delivered in person. The developer of ART does not endorse virtual delivery of ART sessions. Virtual ART sessions at Resiliency Counseling are offered at the clinician’s discretion and may not be appropriate for all clients or clinical presentations. This will be discussed during your consultation.
